The Rolex Daytona “Ventura” customized by Artisans de Genève features a deep blue aventurine dial, skeletonized subdials, and polished rose-gold accents, giving it a celestial, starry appearance. The Ventura Daytona begins life as a stainless-steel Rolex Cosmograph Daytona (Ref. 116500), but is transformed with exotic materials and hand-finishing. Its dial is crafted from mirror-polished Murano aventurine glass, a blue, sparkly material created by Venetian glassmakers. This aventurine dial “shimmers and glistens in a gentle way” thanks to flecks of copper within the glass. The dial is overlaid with sapphire crystal sub-dials (for the chronograph counters), which are rendered transparent to reveal the movement beneath. Rose gold is used liberally: the bezel is cut from a satin-finished pink-gold block (with an aventurine insert), and the hour markers and hands are solid faceted pink-gold, all polished for maximum brilliance. In short, the Ventura’s design juxtaposes the deep blue of aventurine against the warm lustre of rose gold and clear sapphire, creating a high-contrast, refined look (a “timepiece made of contrasts” between blue glass and gold).

The customization is extremely hand-crafted. For example, the aventurine dial and bezel are machined and polished from fragile Murano glass – a delicate process requiring great skill. The pink-gold hands and markers are individually hand-faceted and polished, and the Aventurine insert in the bezel is precisely shaped and set by hand. Even the dial transfers (white text and indices) are applied manually. Overall, the Ventura Daytona’s aesthetic blends a meteor-like aventurine texture with fine rose-gold detailing and a skeletonized layout. Its unique, starry blue face and open-worked counters make it instantly distinguishable from any standard Daytona.

Mechanical Performance

Under the dial, the Ventura Daytona retains Rolex’s in-house Caliber 4130 automatic chronograph movement – the same high-performance 4 Hz, 72-hour caliber found in all current Daytonas. Artisans de Genève extensively reworks this movement for visual effect. Over ~32 hours of work, each bridge and plate of the 4130 is hand-sawn and skeletonized (cut and bevelled by hand), then decorated and given a dark anthracite “Black Or” finish. The result is a movement that is largely open, revealing the chronograph gears through the three subdials from the front. A new rose-gold skeletonized rotor is fitted to the movement (an “openworked rose gold oscillating weight” in ADG’s words), providing both visual appeal and functional winding. According to ADG, the balance bridge is also custom-made and hand-polished.

These modifications do not change the essential function of the Daytona. The base 4130 caliber remains the same chronograph movement, so timekeeping and chronograph operation are intact. (Rolex’s original power reserve is 72 hours; Artisans do not typically alter that, although the Hypebeast piece oddly mentions “32 hours of continuous running time” which seems to be a mistake or refers to hours spent customizing.) In other words, the Ventura is still a genuine Daytona in performance terms, but its inner mechanics are now on display. Because of the skeletonization, one can see the chronograph’s column wheel and levers at work through the open subdials. The only caveat is Rolex’s own stance: once the watch is modified by ADG, the original Rolex warranty is voided (the company even cautions that a modified Rolex “can no longer receive the Rolex service … because it no longer meets the brand’s qualitative standards”). Artisans de Genève does offer its own warranty on the finished piece, but this is a private arrangement. Functionally, however, the Ventura Daytona remains a robust, precise chronograph – now made spectacular by the visible, hand-finished movement.

Collector Value and Rarity

The “Ventura” Daytona is an ultra-rare, bespoke creation. Artisans de Genève builds only on customer request, meaning the Ventura is essentially a one-of-one custom project. (In fact, ADG’s site lists the Ventura under a named client’s personal projects; only the owner supplies the base watch for modification.) This extreme rarity – no two ADG Daytonas are alike – makes the Ventura highly exclusive. As a retailer notes of ADG Daytonas generally, such pieces “represent exclusivity, individuality, and the rare opportunity to own a piece that reflects both traditional watchmaking artistry and contemporary design”. Indeed, past ADG Daytona projects (like the “La Montoya” edition in yellow gold) have been produced in very limited runs (only 42 pieces in that case). The Ventura, by contrast, is bespoke for a single client, putting it in “timepiece as art” territory.

Artisans de Genève charges a premium for such work: customization of the Ventura reportedly cost on the order of CHF 34,520 (around $40,000 USD), not including the price of the Rolex itself. This high cost reflects the hundreds of hours of labor and rare materials involved. (For context, ADG’s yellow-gold “La Montoya” Daytona used hundreds of hours of finishing and featured a custom carbon bezel; the Ventura likewise involves extensive skilled labor.) On the secondary market, ADG-modified Daytonas have attracted strong interest from aficionados of unique pieces. For example, a pre-owned ADG Daytona has been listed for well over twice the price of a stock model. Sellers highlight their uniqueness: limited editions and one-offs “tend to remain strong” as investments because of their rarity.

That said, potential buyers must accept that an ADG-modified Rolex is no longer an “original” Rolex in the traditional sense (it forfeits the official Rolex seal and warranty). This narrows the market to collectors who specifically appreciate the custom artistry. Among such collectors, however, the Ventura’s combination of stunning visuals and bespoke craftsmanship makes it very desirable. It has already been hailed by watch media as a dramatic “starry” Daytona and a highlight of ADG’s portfolio. Once the incorrect shipment is verified, we will arrange for new parcels to be sent to customers while customers return the wrong items to us simultaneously.

2. Returns for Watches Requiring Repairs

Prior to initiating a return request, please contact our customer service team. We will email you detailed instructions on return packing and the corresponding return address. Ensure that the watches are securely packed in their original condition, and place the return labels inside the parcel as instructed.
