The RM 67-02 “Mutaz Barshim” is an ultra-light, skeletonized sports watch created to honor Qatari high jumper Mutaz Barshim. Its case is a layered Quartz TPT® and Carbon TPT® composite with alternating burgundy (Qatar-maroon) and white layers – a nod to Qatar’s flag. The tonneau case measures 38.7 × 47.52 × 7.80 mm (length × width × height). The bezel and caseback use colored Quartz TPT® in a rich crimson/magenta, while the caseband is black Carbon TPT®. The skeleton dial is a thin grade-5 titanium plate (only 0.4 mm thick) with a black DLC coating, then hand-painted in the Qatari flag colors. In side profile it is extremely slim (7.8 mm) and light, and on wrist the vibrant red/maroon and white stripes of the case stand out against the openworked black dial. The watch originally shipped with a seamless elastic “comfort” strap (often seen in a neutral tone) that integrates into the case, providing a snug, slip‑free fit (some retailers note white or blue strap versions).

Powering the RM 67‑02 Barshim edition is the in-house Caliber CRMA7, a ultra-thin automatic skeleton movement. The CRMA7 measures 28.40 × 31.25 mm and only 3.60 mm thick, with 25 jewels and a 4 Hz (28,800 vph) balance. It offers a substantial 50-hour power reserve (±10%) and employs a free-sprung variable-inertia balance with an Incabloc shock absorber. The movement’s baseplate and bridges are in satin-finished Grade-5 titanium (black and grey DLC coated) for rigidity and light weight.

The winding system is notably efficient: the oscillating rotor is skeletonized Carbon TPT® with a solid 22K white gold rim, on ceramic bearings for one‑way winding. This hybrid carbon/gold rotor plus a fast‑rotating mainspring barrel (5‑hour revolution) ensure rapid winding even during vigorous activity. All gear trains use specialized 20° involute tooth profiles to maintain constant power delivery. The dial’s floating carbon and titanium bridges are hand‑beveled and decorate the view, while the hands and flange are hand-painted to match Barshim’s national colors. Functionally the watch is time-only (hours and minutes).

The RM 67-02 Barshim is designed as a “second skin” sports watch. At just 32 grams total weight (including strap) it is remarkably light. Its low profile and integrated elastic strap make it extremely comfortable: the strap is seamless, highly elastic and non-slip, molding to the wrist for maximum wearability. The case’s composite materials confer exceptional shock resistance despite the 7.8 mm thinness, so it can withstand the strains of athletic use. Water resistance is rated to 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear (hand washing, light splashes). In practice owners note the watch sits snugly and securely, making it suitable for sports – indeed Barshim wore it in competition. The combination of ultralight construction and a “comfort” textile strap (with velcro closure) ensures the watch virtually disappears on the wrist, enabling full freedom of movement.

Price and Availability

Launched in 2017 alongside Wayde van Niekerk’s RM 67-02, the Barshim edition carried a retail price of roughly CHF 118,000 (≈ $124,000). It was produced as a special athlete model (not a regular catalog piece), and is generally considered a limited edition tied to Barshim’s ambassadorship. Today it commands far higher prices on the secondary market: recent listings show €~300–330 K (≈ $350–400 K) for a complete, like-new set. For example, a Chrono24 posting in 2023 offered a full-set Mutaz Barshim RM 67-02 at ~€319,000. Auction records and dealer quotes tend to exceed €250,000. (By contrast the base RM 67‑01 Extra Flat is far lower in demand.) Overall, the Mutaz Barshim RM 67-02 remains rare and expensive – far above retail – with only a few dozen (if even that) known examples.

Comparison with Other RM 67-02 Athlete Editions

Richard Mille’s RM 67-02 platform has spawned several athlete-themed colorways, each sharing the same ultra-light skeleton case but with different national/team colors:

Wayde van Niekerk “Sprint” (South Africa) – Features Quartz TPT in green/yellow (flag colors) layers and a green/yellow-carbon composite case. Like Barshim’s, it has a black titanium dial with South African flag accents. It debuted simultaneously in 2017.

Lando Norris “McLaren Edition” (UK) – A carbon/black case accented with McLaren’s papaya orange and the Union Jack motif. Norris’s RM 67-02 uses the same CRMA7 movement but sports a vivid orange fabric strap and orange highlights (the UK driver’s favorite color). It is reportedly exclusive to Norris and McLaren, not a broad release.

Charles Leclerc “Monaco” (F1 OnlyWatch 2021) – A unique one-off RM 67-02 in Ferrari red and white (Monaco flag) created for charity. (It sold for CHF 2.1M in 2021.) Its design echoes Barshim’s red/white theme but uses full red Quartz TPT with white inlays. Only this prototype exists.

Alexander Zverev (Germany) – (Launched 2018) Combines Carbon TPT with red Quartz TPT layers, red caseband, and a red/black strap to mirror the German flag. It retains the same specs (50h, 32g, etc.).

Others (e.g. Alexis Pinturault, Sébastien Ogier, etc.) – Each RM 67-02 for these athletes uses Quartz TPT in the athlete’s national colors (France = white/red/blue, etc.) and matching straps. Functionally they are identical (CRMA7, thin case) and equally light. The main differences among editions are purely aesthetic: case and dial color schemes and strap colors tied to each athlete’s identity.

In summary, the Barshim edition shares the RM 67-02’s sporty, extra-flat build and technical base with its siblings, but stands out with its Qatar-inspired burgundy/white palette. It is similarly as rare and wearable, but the color story is uniquely Barshim’s.

If you have received the wrong product that does not match the QC (Quality Control) photos, please provide evidence within 3 days of parcel delivery. It is important to note that customers are required to provide proof, as we keep records of all watch serial numbers. Once the incorrect shipment is verified, we will arrange for new parcels to be sent to customers while customers return the wrong items to us simultaneously.

2. Returns for Watches Requiring Repairs

Prior to initiating a return request, please contact our customer service team. We will email you detailed instructions on return packing and the corresponding return address. Ensure that the watches are securely packed in their original condition, and place the return labels inside the parcel as instructed.

Please note that ModernTimeWatch does not accept watch exchanges after the parcel has been shipped. Prior to arranging the shipping, please verify the quality of the watches through the provided photos and videos with our customer service team.
